Who is JPT?

She:kon/Hello!

My name is Atiatonharonkwen Jansen Sky-Nicholas, and I am a proud Kanien-keha:ka from the Kaniehkeha territory of Kanehsatake. Growing up there, I was immersed in invaluable cultural and family traditions that continue to guide me. This unique upbringing has given me a distinct perspective, bridging the experiences of reservation life with the challenges and opportunities of becoming a health professional in a major city.

One of my core motivations for entering the medical and health fields stems from observing the difficulties many Indigenous communities face in accessing quality healthcare. My goal has always been to be both a provider and a healer, finding immense joy and pride in helping others achieve their health goals.

My own health journey began simply: trying to get in shape with my cousin Troy. This sparked an interest in personal training, which quickly led me to seek deeper knowledge. My path took me to Syracuse University, where I discovered the world of physical therapy. After four transformative years and countless hours visiting local PT clinics, I moved to New York City to attend Columbia University’s Physical Therapy Doctoral program.

Since becoming a physical therapist, I've had the honor of collaborating with incredible people and learning from wonderful teachers who have shaped me into a skillful and caring clinician. I decided to explore virtual rehabilitation to gain more flexibility and pursue my passion for treating a wider range of clients outside of my traditional clinical role. This virtual platform allows me to connect with new audiences who might not have in-person access to my services, or simply prefer the convenience of remote care.

(And yes, it also helps with those student loans!)

I invite you to learn more about my work below and explore my services page to see how we can collaborate to achieve your health and wellness goals, together.

Niawen/Thank you,

Atia’tonharonkwen/Jansen
